Chicago Library Costs $1,377.78/Square Foot!

Chicago built a Library last year and it cost them a whopping $1,377.78 per square foot to build according to Public Libraries Data - A Year in Architecture 2021 printed in the Library Journal. When I read that little statistic, I nearly fell out of my chair! Now to be fair, this is probably a pretty prominent Library obviously constructed in a large and well-known city. The finishes are most likely over the top and the existing architectural structure is surely made of top-notch materials. It would also be fair to note that MOST of the other Libraries on this list do NOT come in at that high of a price tag, but they are coming in much higher than I've seen in a long time. This report may be a bit discouraging if you're even considering a new design or renovation. Prices are increasing on a pretty consistent basis and materials are getting harder and harder to find.
